CHAPTER 139: Operation"Market Garden"
In late 1944, Field Marshal Montgomery was occupied with devising a plan to overcome the “Westwall”- fortifications without losing too much time or impetus. He decided to try to outflank the fortifications by striking through the Netherlands, at a place were the Germans were not expecting an attack.

So, in September 1944, more than 6000 allied troops were dropped behind enemy lines with paranuts.

Sorry, I guess that should read “with parachutes”.

However, unknown to the Allies, the Netherland Sector was far from undefended. In fact, an elite Waffen- SS armored division had just been transfered there for “rest and recovery”.

A catastrophe was in the offing…
